Another quarantine period is now behind me and I tried to spend the time wisely with homework of all kinds. First thing thereafter was running and enjoying the fresh air again outside. Now while life is kind of ordinary again, except from some pandemic restrictions, I hit some balls again and started first preparations for the next possible event in May. These plans changed again after the announcement from Matchroom about Team Germany. I received several messages asking me which ranking system was used to determine a spot for the World Cup of Pool and the answer can be found on the podcast "Cue the Talk" where I took part in yesterday:

Meanwhile I can take care of some other issues, have some details changed on my
new Predator cue and will then start the preparation for the World Pool Championship in June (06.‐10).

Unfortunately for me, the Predator Championship League Pool in Milton Keynes, was over after just 2 days of playing. Following the early exit I commentated a couple of matches while still being there and followed the remainder of the event online from home. Congrats to the Champion and Dachau team mate Albin Ouschan as well as but former team mate David Alcaide for finishing runner-up and the other 5 players for reaching the Winner's Group on the final day.I still believe it's a very different but interesting format and would like to play in an event like this again. Now it's time to work even more and harder for the next events. Because there are no events planned within the next 6 weeks, I will shoot a little teachingvideo with influencer Sharivari, which should be released soon on his YouTube channel. Besides that we will have another online meeting with the DBU sports council, where we will discuss things for the new season 2021/2022.

Until next week...

I don't even know how to start today. I guess the best idea would have been to stay in bed... I made so many uncharacteristic mistakes throughout the day, that I wasn't able to win one single match. I had chances enough to easily win 3 or 4 but it wasn't meant to be. I try not to look for excuses, therefore I won't go into details and give you my thoughts and scores about each single match:

Kelly Fisher 3-5 (could have maybe should have won)
Niels Feijen 4-5 (should have won)
Mieszko Fortunski 4-5 (unbelievable to not win this one)
Eklent Kaçi 1-5 (he outplayed me)
David Alcaide 2-5 (could have won)

Albin Ouschan (could have won)

Unfortunately that's it for this event and whenever there is a real competition again, I may continue to talk about it...

day starts with a non planned wake up call

day starts with a non planned wake up call from the reception because they think I should have checked out already. Don't ask why.... My first match goes as bad as the day started. Nothing goes my way with a bad kick on the 9-ball in game 2 and Chris Melling playing a great set. Score 0-5. Match #2 vs. Eklent Kaçi is better with a 5-3 victory. In match 3 vs. Kelly Fisher, I am down 0-3, come back to 4-3 and on my break the cue ball gets kicked in. Final result 4-5. In match 4 against Albin it goes back and forth with the better end for me because of a scratch from Albin on the way to level the score at 4-4. I win 5-3. The fifth match is crucial in order to stay in the field and with a 5-2 win over Robinson, I definitely qualify for day 2. The last battle of the day is bad again. After a lite dinner, I feel tired and have a hard time to focus. At 3-4 down I miss a big chance to go hill-hill and lose the match 3-5 against Niels.
All in all a roller-coaster of emotions after a grueling day 1 with a fifth place in the table. Stay tuned...

Test and Practice Day

Test and Practice Day

I wake up at 6:30am and need to fill out a working permission before doing a Covid-19 LAMP test at 7:15. After that straight back to the room and staying isolated until further notice. Breakfast gets delivered in a bag outside the room at 8:30. Good news at around 10am: the test is negative and I receive a wristband that needs to be worn constantly from now on within the bubble. I book my first 30 minute practice session for 12:30, grab a sandwich for lunch and do a nice 4 mile run outside, which is the only thing allowed outside of the bubble. After killing some time in the room, I go back for my next practice session and wait for the official players meeting at 8pm. Finally it's time to calm down, order dinner to the room, watch a bit TV and get a good night sleep

Travel Day

Both flights, Munich - Frankfurt and further on to London are jam packed, social distancing impossible. Is everyone on a business trip? Definitely not!

We leave 30 minutes late in Frankfurt and to enter the UK takes over an hour as well because of 300 people in line. Now the real craziness starts because I can't find my luggage. Is it still in Munich or Frankfurt? No it was scanned in London but where is it? A woman took mine instead of hers and had left the airport already. Why? Both pieces look similar but that's it. They are different in size and mine is plain compared to hers with lots of stickers on it. Luckily she has a phone number on her baggage, so the airport staff calls her back and we can exchange the suitcases after one hour.

Finally we (Albin, Nayoki, referee Marcel and I) can go to the hotel where the Matchroom staff welcomes us. After a short introduction of the event rules, we have to isolate ourselves in the hotel rooms until the next morning when we will be tested again.

To be continued..

Predator CLP presented by Matchroom Sport On Thursday March 18th around 12:30 pm, I was asked if I could join the Predator Championship League Pool in Milton Keynes, UK by Matchroom's Emily Frazer. It didn't take more than a minute to give a positive answer to Matchroom. Then the real battle began with rearranging the upcoming week, booking a flight, trying to get a negative Covid-19 test and so on. On Friday night at about 9pm it was clear - I am flying to London on Saturday morning. But the night was not over yet because I had to fill out and print lots of paperwork in order to be able to enter into the UK. After a very short night I am now at Munich Airport waiting to board the flight via Frankfurt to London Heathrow. More to be continued...
